December 25

Christmas is over way to fast. My son was here and is gone already. It seems each year it goes faster. I wish it would last a bit longer. I’m thinking of leaving our tree up longer this year.

The good news is that the peace that comes from the Lord stay’s with us through out the year. His love can permeate our lives if we let Him.

This is real love-not that we loved God, but that he loves us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 1 John 4:10

Some of you may be sad this time of year because you don’t get to spend time with those you love. If its death or the death of a relationship or just physical distance. Either way it can leave you feeling empty and alone.

Love is about sacrificing and wanting what is best for others, not about what we can get. In that light if others can’t or don’t want to be with us on Christmas we can bow our heads and cry the tears of sacrificial love.

My Pearl today is that we have a great example of sacrificial love, Jesus who gave his life. No pain was to great for him to save us. He sweat drops of blood for us.

Its Christmas Eve! I watched Rio this morning. Not sure its a Christmas movie, but it was so sweet.

Have you ever noticed that each movie has a bag guy, a hero, love and happily ever after.. In Rio the Vivian was a bird who once looked good, but turned ugly.

The innocent blue bird, oh shoot did I really forget his name already? Was it Rio? Oh my, I am getting old. Either way, the innocent blue bird is so naive and he meets the only female like his own and she is a witch with a B.

Then the child who has no family helps save the birds. Its all so sweet. Then the triumph moment when the blue bird can fly after the female bird kisses him. Makes your heart go pitter patter!!

The Bible is actually the same way. There is a bad guy and a hero and love and sacrifice. Every good story makes you say aw isn’t that sweet!

I love this time of year as we spend time thinking about love and how we have been saved from ourself.

My Pearl today is that we have a hero, its Jesus! He rescued us at just the right time!

Today we enjoyed two Christmas services. Its one of my favorite things to do during Christmas. I usually like to go to three different services, but we don’t always have time for three.

I am pondering some new thoughts about Joseph. In his time a groom had to pay for his wife and he was engaged to Mary which meant they were actually married already, but had not consummated their relationship.

When he found out she was pregnant he had a couple of choices. He knew that the child was not his. He and the rest of his family and Mary’s family assumed the worse.

I can’t imagine how Mary felt! Falsely accused I’m sure. But she had no proof. Imagine trying to explain that you were pregnant and never had sex. Not very believable.

In that culture if Joseph chose to he could have asked for all his money back and exposed Mary publicly and then had her stoned. Instead he didn’t plan to expose her and didn’t even ask for his money back. Instead he planned to divorce her quietly.

What a man, instead of exposing her, humiliating her and demanding his money back he was just going to divorce her quietly. Until of course the angel let him know that Mary was a virgin.

The good news for Mary was that at least her husband finally believed her. It would appear that both of their families had rejected them, because they didn’t come to see them when they had their baby. Instead it was strange men from out of town.

You’d hope that if you have a baby your family would come? These are all new perspectives of this story that makes me realize that I have not experienced any real false accusations compared to what Joseph and Mary went through.

They both had to have pleasing God as the number one thing on their mind in order to follow through with the plan.

My Pearl is that if Mary and Joseph can go through humiliation and having no voice, then my experiences are minuscule.

I was doing my stretches this morning on the area rug in front of the Christmas tree. With no other lights on except the lights from the tree. It creates a sense of serenity.

I thought to myself, why don’t I sit here more often, just the light from the tree and The Lord. I think we will keep the tree up for awhile.

I think its a lot of work to put up all our Christmas decorations and then take it down in one month. We should change the Christmas season to last from Thanksgiving through March.

Today’s attribute of The Lord is omnipresent. The Lord is everywhere he knows how many hairs are on our head and knows every day before it happens.

I use to want to know what was going to happen, but I think its better to simply trust the Lord with my future.

My Pearl today is the simple joy of trusting in the Lord’s ability to provide.

Today’s attribute of God is Everlasting:

Lord through all the generations you have been our home! Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God. You turn people back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, you mortals!” Psalm 90: 1-3

The Lord was here before the world began. He was here before we were and will be there when we take our last breath.

I get many opportunities to be with people when they take their last breath. I have experienced many requests in those last days of life. Today I had the privilege of giving someone a drink of water.

This particular patient had a swallowing problem and had not been able to have a drink or eat in the last weeks. It was an awesome feeling to get to offer her some ice water.

You could tell she was dry and parched. This is how it is when we have been to busy to spend time with the Lord. Eventually we find our souls parched.

My pearl today is the deep security of being connected to our Everlasting God. We can always get refreshed with time out with The Lord.

Today’s attribute is El Roi which means The God who sees. I picked 139:7-12 as the verses:

I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to the heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me….

The main point being that we can’t go anywhere to get away from Gods presence. As long as I’m not hiding anything this should produce within me a sense of protection.

He is a God who see’s everything. He even knit us together in our mothers womb. He knows what each day will hold for us. At times the fact that he knew what kind of things I would go through has produced anger within.

As I mature in my relationship with The Lord I know that he has my best interest in mind so I don’t need to question Him. I need to question my own faith and trust in Him.

We are never alone because He is with us wherever we go. So why do we feel lonely? Loneliness can set in when emotional pain blocks our senses to spiritual things.

Sometimes we are lonelier being with people in the same room, but not feeling a connection. That is the type of loneliness I have felt. This is the worst kind because you can’t even feel safe enough to express your feelings.

If your truly alone physically then you can shout, cry and laugh and talk with The Lord without anyone judging your “crazy.”

I guess in my past I learned being alone was better than being with others who shamed me and would not and could not hear my heart.

When its just The Lord and I, its safe. I can feel whatever I want and I’m not in defense mode so its easier to hear what He may be saying to my spirit. Without this ability to walk alone with Him I’d be tucked away in an institution somewhere. Its very helpful to talk out my feelings with Him.

My Pearl is that I can be myself because the one who see’s everything is the only one that really matters..

Today’s attribute is Healer. If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you. Exodus 15: 26

I do not believe that the diseases we suffer are in direct correlation with our disobedience. Many of us are disobedient and don’t have diseases. This specific verse is referring to the plagues The Lord sent to get Pharaoh to set the people free.

Some live a life of obedience and yet are plagued with many health issues. The Lord is our infinite healer. Some of us may have healing here and others may not get the healing we want until we step into eternity.

All of our bodies are dying and so on many different levels we all need healing. We may have simple groans and aches or life threatening illnesses. We all need healed emotionally and spiritually.

Either way; The Lord is the healer of all things great or small.

I’m having issues with my lower back and as I’ve started physical therapy the pain is getting worse. I’m starting to wonder if I’m going to end up with the same problem in my lower back as I had in my neck?

I’m a bit disappointed as I’m having muscle spasms in my lower back and now pain going down both legs.

Either way, He is Healer and someday I will have a brand new body.

My Pearl is that in spite of dealing with pain here on earth, someday we will be free from all pain.
